Description
Release: December 2000 (one of the very first non-Gundam Master Grades ever made) Series: Mobile Suit Gundam (0079) Pilot: Various Zeon aquatic troops (most famously seen in the hands of Flanagan Boone in the anime)
The MG MSM-03 Gogg holds a special place in Gunpla history as the first mass-production Zeon mobile suit to receive the Master Grade treatment. It’s a chunky, ugly-cute, bright blue/green amphibious monster that looks like a cross between a sumo wrestler and a submarine with arms.
Key Features & Design
- Size & Bulk: At 1/100 scale, the Gogg is massive for a non-transforming suit—roughly the same height as the MG Dom but much wider and heavier thanks to its rounded, armored silhouette.
- Color Separation: Excellent for 2000 standards. Almost all blue, light blue, gray, and yellow parts are separately molded; almost no painting required.
- Inner Frame: Uses a simplified but sturdy inner skeleton shared with early MGs (Zaku II, Dom, etc.). The torso and arms have a very solid, tank-like feel.
- Mono-eye: Fully movable on a rail (classic Zeon style).
- Mega Particle Cannons: The two belly-mounted cannons are poseable and can open/close.
- Claw Hands: Iconic oversized claw manipulators with opening/closing fingers via polycap joints—very satisfying to pose crushing Rick Dias or Guntanks.
- Flexible “Hip” Skirts: The four large lower-body armor plates are on ball joints and swing freely for surprisingly good leg articulation despite the suit’s tubby appearance.
Included Weapons & Accessories
- 2 × Mega Particle Cannons (belly, fixed but poseable)
- 2 × Claw Hands (open/close gimmick)
- Optional closed fist hands
- Torpedo effect parts (clear orange) that plug into the belly cannons
- Water slide decals + foil stickers
- Display stand adapter (Action Base 1 compatible)
Runner count: 13 runners + polycaps.
Build Experience & Reputation
- Extremely fun and straightforward build (about 4–6 hours for most builders).
- Feels indestructible once completed—perfect for handling and posing.
- Beloved for its “so ugly it’s awesome” charm. It’s one of those kits people buy just because it makes them smile.
- Still one of the best representations of an early Zeon grunt suit in MG form.
In short: The MG Gogg is pure, unpretentious fun. It’s big, blue, stupidly strong-looking, and one of the best “I just want to build something cool tonight” kits in the entire Master Grade lineup. A true Zeon classic that still holds up perfectly 25 years later.
