Master Grade (MG) GX-9900 Gundam X  - 1/100 Scale

Release Date: 2014

Description

The MG 1/100 GX-9900 Gundam X is a Master Grade plastic model kit released by Bandai in January 2014 (January 29 in Japan, with reissues continuing under Bandai Spirits). It faithfully recreates the GX-9900 Gundam X, the titular mobile suit from After War Gundam X (1996 anime), piloted by Garrod Ran and Jamil Neate. This Gundam-type unit features the revolutionary Satellite Cannon (powered by lunar microwave transmission) for colony-destroying firepower, a Flash System for Newtype control, and a rugged post-apocalyptic design with the classic "X" chest emblem.

The kit stands approximately 18 cm (about 7 inches) tall when assembled, with pre-colored parts (no glue required), a detailed inner frame, and solid articulation for its era. It's widely praised as one of the best MGs for the After War timeline — offering excellent poseability, the iconic Satellite Cannon gimmick, and a satisfying build experience despite its age.

Key Features & Armaments

  • Satellite Cannon — Massive backpack-mounted beam cannon with opening/closing mechanism; includes charging mode (extended barrel) and firing pose support; translucent purple energy effect parts for dramatic shots.
  • Hyper Hammer — Large melee hammer with posable handle for crushing attacks.
  • Vulcan Guns — Head-mounted; posable covers for firing.
  • Beam Rifle — Standard beam rifle with folding stock/grip and detailed scope; posable for handheld use.
  • Beam Saber — Stored in backpack; clear effect parts for glowing blade.
  • Shield — Forearm-mounted shield with mounting points and inner structure.
  • Articulation — Good range for 2010s MG: ball-jointed shoulders/elbows/hips, double-joint knees, flexible wrists/ankles — supports dynamic poses, cannon charging, or hammer swings.
  • Manipulators — Multiple hand parts (fists, weapon-holding, trigger fingers) for versatile gripping.
  • Cockpit — Openable with seated pilot figure (Garrod Ran in casual outfit).
  • Details — Sharp panel lines, thrusters on backpack/legs, and authentic Gundam X scheme (white/blue/red with metallic accents); foil stickers for markings, panel lines, and highlights (waterslide decals not standard).

This kit is a fan-favorite for After War Gundam X enthusiasts — its Satellite Cannon gimmick, solid engineering, and poseability make it perfect for dramatic "moonlight butterfly"-style shots or pairing with HG Gundam X/Double X kits. Builders praise the clean proportions, stability, and how it captures the Gundam X's "post-apocalyptic powerhouse" vibe. Note: A reissue wave was announced for early 2026 in some regions due to ongoing demand.
