Master Grade (MG) GM Command (Colony Type) - 1/100 Scale
The MG 1/100 RGM-79G GM Command (Colony Type) is a Master Grade plastic model kit released by Bandai in December 2017 (Japan launch around December 2017, with reissues continuing under Bandai Spirits). It depicts the RGM-79G GM Command (Colony Type) from Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket — a mass-production colony defense variant of the GM series, optimized for space colony and close-quarters combat with improved output, thrusters, and mono-eye head for better sensor performance compared to standard GMs.
This kit was Bandai's 200th Master Grade release, celebrated with modern engineering: a detailed inner frame (borrowed and refined from the MG RX-78-2 Gundam Ver. 2.0), smooth articulation, and good proportions for a grunt suit. It stands approximately 18 cm (about 7 inches) tall when assembled, with pre-colored parts (no glue required) and stable joints for dynamic poses—often praised as a "solid, reasonably priced MG" with great value and articulation for a Federation mass-production unit.
This kit is highly regarded for 0080 fans or those who love Federation grunt suits — its mono-eye head, smooth articulation, and clean design make it stand out among GM variants. Builders praise it as a "bare-bones but excellent" MG with hydraulic details in elbows/knees/ankles, stable posing, and a fun build experience. It's perfect for War in the Pocket dioramas (e.g., colony defense scenes) or pairing with HGUC Zaku II FZ/Bernie kits. If you're after the Space Type variant, that's a separate release (MG GM Command Space Type), but this Colony Type captures the close-quarters specialist vibe perfectly!
